Transferring my number

I am looking at getting a new phone and taking my number with me.

However it is an Orange number that is going back to Orange after 2 years, will this be a problem? I asked a guy in the shop and he wasn't very convincing.

Should be fine, Just need to get the PAC code.

I asked them and they said that it won't work Orange to Orange. This is from an existing Orange contract to a new Orange contract.

When questioned he just said the system wouldn't allow it.

But if I got my original contract PAC code, put it on o2 PAYG then get that PAC code I could put it back onto my new contract.

If that makes sense...

Ok so because my number has gone Orange > O2 > Orange that will be ok?

This should be fine, you can't go straight from a Network back to itself and I can't remember how long the minimum gap is but it's less than two years.
