Hi guys,

I'm not sure how 'illegal' this is so if it is just remove the thread.

But basically films you can buy off the PSN, once you have bought and downloaded them, how can you transfer them off the PS3?

Sisters bf has one and he says when Avatar is available he'll buy it and download it, I'd then like to put it on my computer so I don't have to watch it on his console.

I'm a Mac user btw, have a PC here too if Windooze is required.

Cheers guys :)
Jake

Im sure you can transfer it to a PSP and then perhaps to your PC using media go, but im sure you wont be able to do anything with the file apart from transfer them between the PS3/PSP.

Really its not a bad thing to actually go out and buy some films at times.
Honest it wont harm you or give you any rare side effects.

Id by FAR recommend you go out and buy a DVD or Blu than pay over the top PSN prices.

Please don't patronise.

I've already seen the film at the cinema, I'm not asking how to download it illegally, I'm asking if a copy that we buy can be put on my Mac.

Plus it isn't out on Bluray or DVD yet, if it was I'd own it. I absolutely love the film and want to see it again!

Surely the actual copy you want to make is illegal though? Assume Sony have employed some form of DRM so it cant be played on anything but the PS3 it was bought on - guess the 5 PSN share thing would work on other PS3s?!?...

I don't know...but I thought that fact we are buying it already means we own it?

We don't want to copy it, just take the actual film itself and put it onto my machine.

Copying would be illegal, moving it's location though when you've purchased that copy shouldn't be...should it?

I thought it was more like a license to view it on the PS3 youve purchased it on indefinitely - I dont know anything about Sonys film policy as I havent even looked at that store. Just assumed like anything digital from such a company that you have very little flexibility in how you view/listen to it  (linked to PS3 and PSN id)

Think a lot of people will make the same assumption though...

EDIT: Saw your edit - think its very much dependent on the T&Cs on the store...

Won't be in the store for quite a while.

I guess it's possible your sisters bf uses the USA store (so some movies which have been shown in the US are just arriving in the UK?)

Hold on your basically asking to make a digital 1:1 copy so that is piracy and you might as well be downloading it then.
You may be able to download I think upto 4 possible other PS3 but only with the same account. They changed the policy recently on this in their TC.
However that is not illegal.

Online PSN
Firstly chances are it may be available sooner in legit ways, cheaper and be better quality on DVD. James C has already stated a Blu version will come with additional footage and extras, the usual stuff. Later it is possible a 3D Blu Ray version will appear also according to some 3DTV specialist website Ive read. Also Im assuming this is a FOX title so if thats the case it will likely come to Retail within 3-6 months with USA/UK at the same time and Id guess as early as Easter.

Is it too much bother to load a disc into the MAC or move the PS3 into that room/screen your MAC is in or is it you cant connect a PS3 to that display?

I have a USA PS3 but never tried the PSN movie stuff and not sure it works with UK creditcard, maybe some way round it of course or indeed buying USA points on an auction site or some game importers. (They email it) I do know Microsoft stopped UK consoles with USA account from downloading last year
even if you purchased the USA format of the points eg 2100 Vs 2400.
Again maybe that has changed but really i think your best buying a typical disc format when available and sticking to that.

Of course there are probably streaming options available but again is that worth all the hassle or money?

Now either you or your sisters BF are quite dull - which one is it :p

ps3ud0

Well he comes out with some truely cracking statements....so I'm going to safely say it's him!

For example he once tried to tell me how to take a photo....

That'd be like you or I telling a pilot how to fly a boeing 747 :p

No, I worded it incorrectly, I'm not asking to copy it. I'm simply asking to move it, he will never watch it, however I will.

No it's not 'too much bother' to load a disc into my machine, I'm not entirely sure which disc you are referring to. And I'd rather not move the PS3, as it is his, and if it were mine and he moved it to play a film I'd probably get a bit funny about it as well :p - Hence wanting to electronically move it from one place to another.

Yes, I will when they are available, I intend to buy a Bluray player in the next couple of weeks anyway, however, having a legitiment Hi def copy of it now would be awesome.

Id recommend you get a PS3 then if wanting a BD player. It does an excellent job.

As for the situation of downloading movies from PSN.
They are quite strict and isnt the new hidef stuff just in stereo on PSN?
Not sure it that matters to you or not either but from what I have seen the prices of PSN are extortion for what you get considering audio/video is reduced in quality.

The only benifit is I think they will allow upto 4 downloads for the purchase to the actual account holder. Im not sure if it is possible to create an identical account on a PS3 in a different room/location/different console and then re-download that pre paid movie linked via that account.

Maybe it is but even still this is piracy and in breach of the terms/conditions.
