Hi guys, I'm currently with 1&1 atm and I want to transfer to a new host. How does this work? Do I just sign up with the new one and choose the transfer domain option?

Also what about my email, possible to get that moved across or a way of backing it up?

Thanks!

Depends how 1&1 work and whether they let you download the e-mail - but you could use IMAP with your new host and then (using your mail client( drag your inbox's contents over to the IMAP account, if that makes sense...I assume it works in Outlook etc, I've only tried it with my Mac and I'm pretty sure it worked :)

If it doesn't, just download all your mail to your mail client and store it on your PC, possibly using the export function to upload a backup to your host :)

Email will be lost if you either close the account or move the domain to another host. You'll have to download it via pop locally.

Same with the webspace. Once you've started the move its gone and they won't do anything to help you get it back.

I thought I'd done that, but it was on IMAP I'd lost ~6months of emails.... My own fault really... :(

Thanks for the replies guys :) Decided to get a free .com domain that came with the package and use my old domain to forward to the new one in the meantime.

Trying to sort out the email now, taking a long time...
