Transferring to new install.

I am buying a new system soon and will be installing Windows 7 64bit.
What is the best way to transfer all my old files and settings (favourites, contacts, photos etc) from my old XP setup on my old machine?

Also, a big note. BEFORE installing Windows 7, I highly, highly recommend backing up your XP profile, just in case the transfer tool doesn't work correctly. Just copy the folder to an external HDD or USB Drive. If you have a lot of media, I would recommend moving that to your new installation manually, so back it up and remove it from your XP profile before following the steps in the link above.

In short:

Backup media
Remove media from XP profile
Backup XP profile
Follow guide above
Manually move media back into Windows 7 profile, or wherever you wish.

The reason for the rigmarole is I have seen the Windows Transfer Tool **** up with large amounts of data.

I assume windows easy transfer will be able to transfer all my files from my old 32 bit xp to 64 bit 7?

Unplug old drive, install on new drive, then just copy over documents, files etc. From old drive. Worked for me.
