As title, my Mrs recently switched from an old Android phone to a much faster iPhone.

However she wants to transfer all her whatsapp chats and apparently its freakin impossible/need to be a coding expert !!!

Is there ANY easy way to do this?

Whatsapp has backed up her chat history to google drive - obviously I've looked on the drive as to where that is and it doesn't appear anywhere - i was hoping to drop it in her icloud, but no apparently.

Looked at 3rd party apps that run off a windows pc but they all seem abit dodgy and one that looked ok wouldn't connect to her android phone properly, kept erroring in the connection (developer mode, Samsung A3 mobile - wasn't having any of it)

Another dodgy lookin 3rd party app had mildly better luck connecting but it wants to forcibly disconnect google account from her whatsapp, then downgrade the whatsapp software version to enable backup to SD then copy that to the iPhone - but she doesn't want to try this as she's worried its to risky.

Any ideas? Is there any apps on the App store/google store than can be installed to simply just do this?

I recently moved my mrs from an s8 to an iPhoneX and I absolutely feel your pain, instead of it being easy I spent days faffing around getting it right and it fought me every step of the way. Apple and Apple store app developers genuinely need to make this process easier, from android to android you can move from one device to another with ease, with the exception of a few apps such as banking and apps like google authenticator you can transfer one phone to another over nfc in no more than a few hours. Pretty much the same news ios to ios, nice and easy, between the platforms remains soul destroying.

I can't remember how I did it on my mrs phone but I did backup and restore whatsapp, I do know I used either ifunbox or 7 labs software but it was about 6 months ago.

WhatsApp used to backup to their own servers and was so easy. It’s an app developer decision to have the mess we have now rather then Google or Apple’s.
I can see why they did it (costs 0 if your using other services to host the backup) but results in lots of issues for the end user

Hmmmmm this isn't good news, I checked ifunbox and it seems it needs a jailbreak which I don't do unfort, is there an easy straight forward app that will do it?

How could I copy from google drive to icloud for example?

Thanks for replies so far.

Watching this with interest. Going through teh exact opposite (iPhone to Android) and having a nightmare with the old WhatsApp chats

I've no experience going from Android to Apple but Apple to Android is easy as there is an excellent app to do this and it does work. Used it on my wife's ancient iPhone 4 when I bought her a OP3 in 2016.

Some 35k of messages and sod knows how many images and videos all moved flawlessly.

They really should make this process easier on the ios end of things.

This is unfortunate, when I switched (due to how laggy Android was), I just started whatsapp again, but my Mrs says she HAS to have the messages moved over, so looks like a mildly dodge 3rd party app is the only way to go lol
