Transmit video from Mobo - GPU goes offline

I need to transmit a video signal from my motherboard (Z68 Extreme4 Gen3) instead of my GPU (AMD 7970) for reasons that are irrelevant to explain. But yet, my GPU stops working and the MoBo switches to the on-board GPU on my Intel CPU, instead when I plug the video cable into the MoBo.

Can one of you intelligent gentlemen enlighten me on how to fix this?

So what are you trying to do?

Set up LucidVirtu so the 7970 still works but is passed through the outputs on the board?

Or just use the onboard solution to display a picture (which it sounds like you have achieved?)

Or use both the 7970 and the onboard solution at the same time?

My monitor is native 1920x1200 but I wish to record videos at 1280x720, but doing so with the video signal coming from the GPU causes my monitor to shrink the image of the screen down, which I find uncontrollable. But when I plug the HDMi cable into my motherboard, the screen doesn't shrink.

I'm not sure how to set Virtu to do as you said?

To set up Lucid you force the IGP to on in the BIOS (to stop it disabling when a discrete card is used) install the Catalyst drivers, Intel HD graphics driver and then the Lucid program, attach the monitor to the motherboard and Lucid will switch automatically to the 7970 when needed (i.e 3D gaming)

But im not sure this is what you are after, sounds to me like you need to find a setting in the Catalyst driver to fit to screen when the resolution is lowered and not to display in a windowed mode.
