Transport Tycoon / Open TTD Server

I would be interested in this. A couple of years ago with Frenchtart's help I had an openTTD server running:

We used a custom client to include a few patches to make the multiplayer run better (Mainly a day length patch to slow the game down a little, since if there's just one person playing on the server for a couple of hours alone, you can end up shooting the time forward and everyone else gets left behind. Was a pain in the butt having to compile the game with the patches though!

Sounds awesome, was it hard work to get it working? Definitely interested in getting it set up.

The actual setting up of the server I'm not sure, Frenchtart handled all of that. The patching was a massive pain because you had to compile the source code manually, which I didn't have a clue how to do. Ended up having to download various pieces of software like visual c++ and doing lots of command line typing to do it.

http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=42432 Is the day length patch and
http://www.tt-forums.net/viewtopic.php?f=33&t=21678 gives all the info on how to compile it.

Yep that patch worked well. Shame you can't (not looked into it, so it might be possible) to limit how much time per person per day can go on there. Everyone has different times available to them to play, so would be better still if you could limit everyone to say 2hrs a day max.

Best option would probably be to just slow it down even more than how we had it. I think I'd set it to run at half speed, but dropping it to something like a quarter could maybe work.

For reference, this doesn't affect the movement speed of everything in the game, but it affects all other time related functions, such as goods production, population increases and the like. See the link I posted to the patch a couple of posts up to get the full details.
