Transporting base unit

Anyone got any tips on transporting my base unit? i frequently (1 or 2 times a month) take a train journey lasting 3-4 hours, and involves about 10 stories of stairs withmy computer in a large travel bag. any ideas to stop it getting damaged rather than post it ahead of time or get a laptop.

do you think it would be ok to put some socks + shirts etc inside the tower, will cushion the componants and save space :d

i need my pc at uni for music/video editing etc (laptop equivilent would be like £1000+), but i go home some weeks and need to do work + like to game at home, don't really want to waste money on a laptop when my pc can do the job, ill just get a lanbox at xmas xx

wont a small case with such a high spec cause stupid heat problems, could you recommend a motherboard+case? (which works with my ocz 520w psu)

e6300, tuniq tower 120, 7800gt, 2gb geil ram, 520w ocz modstream, but if i go SFF i'll want 8800gt + Q6600
