@Russinating - Are you travelling from Bucharest for a day trip, or staying in Brasov overnight and then exploring?
The historic centre of Brasov is compact and you can wander around at your own pace. Anything you'd want to see in a short visit is in and around. There's a cable car that runs up the adjacent hill for photo ops.
If you have time, there's a nice pair of options en route back to Bucharest. The hilltop citadel of Rasnov is about 15miles out of Brasov, en route to Bran. It has commanding views and looks down over Rasnov town; worth a 45min stop and it was very quiet when I visited. From Bran, if I remember correctly, you have to double back to Rasnov to connect to the road back to Bucharest anyway, which will eventually take you past the former Royal residence of Peles, near Sinaia. Neo-Renaissance style 'fairytale' castle. I recall the journey from Bran > Peles through the Bucegi Natural Park was pleasant, very scenic.
It's around 14 years since I visited, so the specifics are hazy. I think we were free to explore Bran but a guided tour of Peles was mandatory. However, you are (were) free to park up, explore Peles' grounds and take pictures. If you are passing, it's a 5 min detour and worthwhile.
My trip was a 10-day loop from Bucharest > Brasov > Sighisoara > Bucharest and then a train to Belgrade > Timisoara > Bucharest.
Whether you are there already or preparing to leave, enjoy!
