The family and I are going to Jersey soon and I'm looking into travel insurance. I haven't been abroad for nearly 12 years and all the previous times I paid for a dedicated policy. However, this time I have a Nationwide current account which comes with travel insurance included. So I was thinking I don't need to buy a separate policy this time. But for some reason I'm concerned it won't provide adequate cover. I was hoping some of you well travelled OCUK'ers may be able to comment on whether the policy is good enough? I won't need cover for extreme sports (we're a young family), just the 'usual' things like illness, accident, loss, etc.

The Nationwide travel Insurance is a pretty standard travel policy. Assuming none of you have pre-existing medical conditions or are over 70 then it should be fine for your needs.

BTW which account do you have as the standard one is not available for new customers? If you have the FlexPlus the cover is better and wider. If the standard one you would need to have taken the family upgrade option to have everyone covered.

It's a Flex Plus account.

Yeah, I decided it was worth paying for and cancelled my car breakdown cover and mobile phone insurance policy. Travel insurance wasn't a factor at the time, as we holiday at home, but now we are going abroad it got me thinking if it was actually a good enough policy.

I never really done any research but always gone for AA travel insurance (Silver), get it annually for £57 a year world wide, excluding USA and winter sports.

Then you will be good to go. I have travelled extensively with the family whilst covered under this policy. Made one claim for Medical expenses for two broken arms (long story). Claim was dealt with quickly without issue.

I thought it was £13 per month (that is what I am paying). Really good value for the covers you get.
