Me and a friend from work have decided we want to drive across Europe, can anyone give us any advise, are there places that can help us plan such a trip?

I'd like to do france, germany, switzerland, touch italy, austria, slovakia, czech republic, and the netherlands on the way back. There would be 2 of us sharing the driving but how could we find places to stay and what places are a must visit along the way?

I think really we just want to get out and see the sights and maybe meet some nice European girls :p

Would a week be long enough? we could potentially leave late fri and return on sunday the week after giving us closer to 9 days.

Any help or advice or places to look at would be great.

Thanks

A week is nowhere near long enough, you'll spend all of it driving and sleeping if you're going as far as the czech republic.

I'd take a minimum of three weeks for a trip like that personally but I suppose you could squeeze it into two if you had a precise itenerary.

I spent two weeks driving around just FRANCE and that was about right without a plan.

it took us a week to drive to croatia, that was awesome, we then spent a week coming back via the route you have said.

i would love to do it again, and will do soon :D

2 weeks is long enough, the week driving down to crotia we partied every night all night, the driver just didnt drink, really really good fun, highly recomend it, anything else you wanna know just ask.

Dover - Calis
Calis - Koln
Koln - Prague
Prague - Budapest
Budapest - Zagreb
Zagred - Zadar

i think they where that way around on the way out, would defo recomend, prague and koln for night life ;)

i'll have a think what route back we did

2 weeks at least. in most places along the way, you wont need long in each place. take bratislava: you can see it in 4 hours! be sure to takea trip to the tesco and buy plenty of cheap beer. If you're going through the czech republic, i'd suggest check out csesky krumlov, I've not been there but it looks absolutely beautiful and I've heard good things about it. switzerland is amazing but expensive and i think the rules of the road are pretty strict there. Austria and germany are both brilliant (i prefer austria). I actually dont like italy. I've been to venice and florence and didn't really enjoy either. I'm hopeing rome will be able to convert me.

For accomodation, you're in a pretty good time of the year to just go and find hostels on the way (if thats your scene). What I'd do is stuff a tent in the boot and when you can't find a hostel/are a bit out of the way, you can just pitch that.

edit, going through france, you'll probably want to head towards belgium and germany right? If so, Lille is on that route and is a very beautiful city. strongly recomended. take a small town in belgium in too on your way past.

A bit of a random question, you don't work for a company who installs and maintains strain gauges and your friend doesn't have a black VX220 Turbo does he?
It's just my brother who works around the midlands a lot was talking to me about driving accross europe with a mate from work recently and said they'll stop off in Prague to say hello. Probably not but I had to ask :)
