Hello all,

After a bit of advice when it comes to travelling with a camera, in this case to Perth, Australia.

I currently have the following kit, although i haven't used it in a while but when i do i tend to try things like long exposure, light trails etc.

  • Canon EOS 400D
  • Canon 18-55mm EF-S
  • Tamron 75-300mm F/4-5.6 LD Macro
  • Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II
  • EP-EX15 II Eyepiece
  • Zeikos ZE-CBGXTI Battery Grip
  • NB-2LH Duracell DRC21 - CC169 x2
  • Lexar 4GB 80x CF card
  • Remote Shutter Switch Cable
  • Lowpro Fastpack 200

So, question is do i try and sell/part exchange the above for either a new slr or a compact or should i just stick with the 400D?

Also any general travel/photography advice for Australia?

Thanks

J

The first thing you need to ask yourself is would you be happy carrying around slr camera gear during your travels?

If yes then you will need to figure out a budget for camera gear and what parts of your kit you're not happy with and want to change

If the answer is no then you will need something small and reasonably lightweight ,selling all that kit and getting a top of the range compact ie the Sony rx100 would be my advice especially seeing as you hardly use your slr, just bare in mind it only has the equivalent reach of 100mm

Id say You will also need some more memory cards

It's a tough one really , I'm off for a holiday to Thailand soon and I have a Sony nex5n which I may take with just a couple of lenses or I might buy an rx100 so I can just keep it in my pocket and forget about it, I want some good quality shots of my trip but also want to enjoy the trip without worrying about camera kit

Only you can say whether its too much for you to carry or whatever.

For travelling though, I'd say you can ditch the battery grip.

Rather than start a new thread i will post it my old one :-)

OK to update you i now have a Samsung NX1000 with 20-50mm kit lens

I've sold most of the Canon lenses and just have the 400D + Kit lens, grip and bits.

My question now is, should i get a NX 50-200mm lens or a prime for my holiday to Oz.

Will be doing mostly landscape, wildlife photos i guess with maybe a bit of street photography. I can only really afford one extra lens so whats best?

Thanks

James
