Has anyone ever considered travelling alone and if so what was your experience of it?

I would ideally like to get away this year (June - Spain) and none of my friends have the money nor do they want to go).

Would I be seen as being a loser for going on my own (and is it dangerous?)

Thanks...

Depends where you're going. I've been aboard alone a few times, and I know one or two people who have. It's fine it you're going to a city, I wouldn't be too sure about going to the middle of nowhere on my own.

like anything , there are pluses and minuses.

some countries are better equiped for single travellers than others.

though i would say, overall, go for it, its a great experience.

You're probably safer in quieter areas though. The murder rates etc. are lower, it's just if you are killed it could take months to find the body. :p

I've considered it, and I may still do it. A friend of mine went round spain for 6 months on his own and loved it.

When I was in Latvia there was a Canadian guy who was travelling all around Europe on his own. Nice guy we hung around with him for a bit and he said he loved it because he never knew anyone long enough to dislike them.

We use to have a lodger about 2 yrs ago, and he kept saying 'this time next year il be travelling the world' we thought he was blagging because he has no friends, and im being serious, i checked facebook about 6 months ago and he is currently travelling the world on his own and he seems to be loving it...

im planning to go to new zealand some time on an active holiday (camping, walking, climbing etc).

im gonna go on my own couldnt think of anything worse than someone i know holding me back :p

wont be on my own when i get over there, but i might as well be :)

I have a friend who has gone to New Zealand on her own for 5 months. She seems to be loving it and has met a lot of people, without planning to beforehand. It'd definitely made me think about doing something similar, as before I was pretty wary of doing something like that on my own.

thers a website somewhere about a guy from the US who quit his IT job i think it was, and went travelling around the world, beeen doing it for a few years iirc, cant seem to find it on google now tho, anyone know it?!

One of my mates has been travelling for about 7 months with his gf, around asia/aus/nz and might possibly goto the US, he's having the time of his life!

travel alone, but in a better area, like south east asia - so much more to experience, meet so many more like minded people than... spain.

That's probably Where the hell is Matt. I hate him, as do most people I know, through sheer jealousy :p

I was travelling on my own for a couple of weeks in Vietnam/Thailand after leaving my friend, had a fantastic time. I met far more people than I had done travelling with a partner, and I enjoyed the freedom of not having to make compromises over what to do or where to go. It's a good experience :)

Travelling with others does my head in. Someone is always moaning or you get lost because someone with terrible sense of direction insists on leading the group, then refuses to admit they were wrong.
