for some reason, completely forgot that consoles even exist, lol. I have a PS3 which I haven't used in a good while, but that should be enough. You're all right - not worth the immense effort of taking a desktop (See - GD can change minds!). I'll consider getting a laptop, but will be a bit annoying to have two (one for work where I can't install anything; and then one for other use), especially since it really wouldn't be used much after this and just sit somewhere. A tablet, especially one like Rroff mentioned could be a really good option.
