Travle - Another daily game

Good stuff, thanks for sharing!

My geography is mediocre at best so although I managed today's I ended up with two adjacent countries I didn't need and wasn't quite the shortest path anyway. My wife got it in 3 so she's glad I shared it with her :p I'll have to go back to doing better than her at wordle for some redemption.

I thought this was a straight line. But it isn't obviously as the first country I picked wasn't right
Yeah that's where I didn't take the 'shortest' path as I tried to head directly towards the target. Guess it's 'the least effort with visas' approach

#travle #146 (10/15)
:cool::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes::rolleyes:

Phew, my planned route wasn't quite the best but not bad once I got going. Initial reaction when I saw the start and end was 'nope' but glad I tried it.

Edit: forum wasn't keen on the orange square so converted it to smileys

Meh. Not keen on this. I'm still not sure how it works. The shortest distance using a road?
The shortest distance using any land borders?

Today, UK to Finland, is odd.

It would be quicker to drive through Belgium and Netherlands, surely?

Edit: yup confirmed by Google maps.

So I guess the rule must be ‘least countries even if it’s the longer route’.

My thoughts:

I thought the the ferry across to Netherlands would be quicker, however google maps does confirm that down to Dover and back up is quicker!

This game isn't about travel time it's just about minimal countries to pass through? And there are rules to the game - https://imois.in/games/travle/extra_info.html

Unfortunately the basic ‘How to Play’ page doesn’t expressly explain this, even though it can be inferred. It should say exactly what you have said there^^^

Name countries to travel from the Start Country to the End Country. Try to get there in as few guesses as possible.

Guess countries in any order. You must name every country you'd pass through, so exclaves don't make new connections.

After each guess you get an emoji signaling how much the computer liked it.

✅
Guess is optimal! You're one step closer.

Guess is pretty good. You're in the ball park... This country is close, but not on the route with the fewest guesses.

Guess is not great. Your guess is a significant detour.
⬛
There isn't even a way to get from your guess to the target country by land. Try again, please .
Direct jumps over water within a country are allowed - e.g. the Bosphorus in Turkey, or between the islands of Malaysia. Jumps that require you go nearer other countries don't count - e.g. France <-> French Guiana or Spain <-> Ceuta/ Melilla.

Guesses not connected to the Start Country are colored gray.

Click More Info & FAQ below for more info on borders, regions and connections in the game, as well as other FAQ!

A few people in the thread have been a little confused - not surprising that people are thinking of how they would travel in a game literally called ‘travle’ that expressly asks you ‘to travel’ from one country to another :o :p

Yeah I don't like it. I'd rather it be least countries. But you'd have difficulty with island nations.

Otherwise you need to know ferry routes.
I do not know ferry routes.

Yeah agree with all the above. On today's I'd put in countries that I thought you could just cross the water to get to the next one and then had to guess around them to work out what it was still waiting for.

For example I put the Netherlands thinking it's a well known ferry route out of the UK but was well off route despite being the same number of countries. Arguably 'better' than going down to France.

Equally I thought you could probably jump across from Sweden to Germany being across from eachother but I will accept that there's the bridge over into Denmark making it drivable. Had forgotten about that scandi drama.

Even if it’s a little underwhelming as a ‘game’ I think it’s pretty good for improving your awareness of where countries are.

I had this down today save that one country eluded me…

Syria

Derp! :o
