Just a few questions; first would this list all be compatable, as i am not really that experienced in building. Secondly, would you recommend water cooling or extra cooling if so what would you recommend? Is there anything i have missed? Oh this will be used for gaming and general use on a 22" samsung. Thanks for any advice.

Change the 4gb of ram to either a 3gb triple channel or 6gb triple channel... I7 are triples now not duals, and its a better path than 2x2gb

I assume you'll be overclocking so you may want to look at a better heatsink. Water cooling won't be an option for the GPU for a while and a good air cooler will be fine on the CPU.

As above, think about the memory in 3's

Finally, if you're spending so much I'd look at a different brand PSU than Akasa, it can deliver 840W @ 12v the same as the Corsair TX 850W (on pre order). You could also look at antec, pc power and cooling, seasonic, zalman etc.

other than the triple channel memory I'm just wondering why you have picked the external bluray drive, over a usb2 interface no less? for about £80 less you can get an internal blu-ray drive that will connect via sata, its not like the p6t is short of sata ports unless you've got 6 other drives you're adding to the mix

One other thing and this is just a personal opinion, but the 295 is way overkill for that monitor. Personally I'd pick something like a 260 core216 or for the added ram the 4870 1gb which you can pick up for just over £200. Both of those cards have the balls to take on a 24" so they should handle the 22" no problem and have a decent amount of future in them. Of course if you're looking to get a 30" monitor anytime soon then the 295 or a X2 is the way to go but if you're sticking with the 22" for any length of time you may as well stick the £230 on a bonfire. You can always re-evaluate your gpu in a years time should you want to upgrade your monitor, by that time a whole range of new gpus might be available. Anyway just my thoughts, Good Luck ;)

I think it depends on wher you're upgrading from Huw. I'm currently at c2q and see no reason to upgrade but if he's on something previous generation, a jump to core i7 is a perfectly valid upgrade. Sure the investment is a bit more costly over core2 but he's also going to have more legs in his upgrade than a core2 system would.

If history repeats itself . . . The first incarnations of a new platform get updated/outmoded quite quickly!

When Pentium 4 was first released it was on Socket 423, this was soon updated to Socket 478

When Althon 64 was first released it was on Socket 754, this was soon updated to Socket 939

LGA775 faired a bit better, although the socket didn't change the VRM spec did meaning as newer CPU's came out you had to buy a new motherboard anyway!

Personally I don't think Intel® Core™ i7 is gonna be any different, not a problem for the expert and frequent upgrader who thinks nothing of swapping out hardware but I reckon a lot of nOOblings will once again find their upgrade path cut short . . .

Intel® Core™ i7 is a bad investment for the majority of peeps at this time but most sheep will blindly follow and empty their savings with great expectations . . . . They don't understand but are assured by other people who don't understand that its a good thing, a case of the blind leading the blind!

Power-Users, Pro-Benchmarkers and ePeeners will enjoy it for a while, most other people are simply Wasting their money, oh well!

Why i decided to go with i7 is, it's the best there is now. I have a system what is like 5 years old, so i hardly upgrade and my current system is not worth the trouble to upgrade, so hence me treating my self. I updated the list, thanks for the advice. I am really considering buying a 28/30", we'll see.

I know it's a bit cliche'd saying i want it future proof but i would really like to be comfortable for the same amount of time my current system has lasted me. I appreciate everything you guys have imput.

Big.Wayne, did you see the guy who just made a monster pc for like 7k? He did triple sli 280's if i remember right, the 295's have just come out, if he had waited for a few weeks he would have had the option of these. I know i7 is basically beta and it will improve. With buying the rest of the components i am leaving my self not to get as outdated to upgrade as my current system is. Thanks again, can you review and give me your advice again :D, thanks.

I will be ordering once i spoke to overclockers and see if they can recommend as in extra cooling wise, can anone give me a their ideas?

No offence Big.Wayne but you completely misunderstood my comment. I wasn't meaning that he was going to have a perfectly futureproof solution, no-one can have that. And as you validly point out sockets, etc have often been changed but some have also lasted a while too so either is a prediction. Regardless what my comment meant is at this time, based upon your current hardware standpoint, its reasonable to choose i7 since its likely to last you much longer than a core2 system might.

i was thinking of a 3rd smaller hdd for OS but was thinking i would never use 2 tb in my life, well unless it would make the performance better? I am just worried on cooling, would i need extra cooling?

Deffo use a smaller HD for the OS and if you are using large drives then a good backup strategy is a must. If you ever have to reinstall the OS or lots of data you will be glad you did.

Also agree that a 24" would do that system more justice.

64bit OS is also needed.

Should be a beast, yes it will date and devalue but doesn't everything eventually.

Its your money:)

I decided on the 64 bit OS before i started dreaming up the build, but thanks for the advice :). I am defo considering a bigger monitor. I'm more concerned about cooling, anybody got any advice on that front?

Almost exactly the system I am getting myself! Building it slowly atm.

1 Thing I would (and have) changed was getting 2 x 320Gb and 1 x 1Tb Sammys instead of the 2 x 1Tb, if you need the space ignore me :) but 2 x 320Gb in RAID0 will be faster than the 1Tb. I am sure someone will point out if I am wrong tho :P

I appreciate that freak, i don't need that much space, it's just i heard they are amazing hdd's so i thought i might aswell get the best, but what do i know :P.

What extra cooling did you add freak?
