As you all no doubt aware poor old Treefrog has had a somewhat serious accident and is rather poorly in hospital at the moment. See here: http://forums.overclockers.co.uk/showthread.php?t=17590753

Now of course we all want to send our wishes but we must also preserve a certain amount of privacy & ethical ground - it is too easy to get carried away with sentiments and feelings without thinking it through. This is why it has taken a little bit of time to think of the best idea to do it.

We have come up with the following plan which I think is the fairest way of doing it. If you wish to discuss it or add ideas please do so but please let us keep focus on what this is about.

We propose that we setup a date for a Card Signing meet so that people can put in their thoughts and poems/pictures and anything else they would like to add. There has been talk of money sending and so on - but this can happen at a later stage - this is a thread for sending your thoughts and best wishes.

People who cannot attend the card signing can email whatever they wish and we'll add it to the big bundle that we would send to Jim. Obviously people wishing to get in touch directly will be at the discretion of R124/LA420 and Jim and it is not for us to stop people wanting to do that. I/we just feel it's better if we can send it as one big wallop of love and as a collective - as this is what we are a big group of people wishing him well. :)

I hope you all feel this is a sensible and nice way to go about it and hope that a lot of you will be able to turn up and raise a glass to him too maybe.

[edit]Ok, slight change of plan having had an update on his condition. You're all invited to record your messages of support and email them to Otacon ([email protected]). They will be collated onto audio CD's and delivered to the man himself in the near future. Sooner the better please :)

After that we'll look into preparing one, or a couple of cards, and we're looking at replacing his glasses that were broken during the accident, so expect more details on a collection for that.

No problem with that but as stated that's at the discretion of Jim's family and R124/LA420 :) The mod team won't be giving out the address as I don't think it's our position or right to do so. :)
 
I like the idea of the Scrapbook.

I think what we'll do is have a big card with whoever can make it and we can always have a huge OcUK hug on behalf of others.

The scrapbook we'll use to collate all the emails, pictures etc... that people want to send Jim and present both to him.

We're currently looking into HUUUUGE cards and will show you our ideas when we've come up with ideas. :)

We will want to do the signing ASAP - and Stan I want it to be before the 10th of July too. :)
 
Once we've got a card organised - hopefully by this afternoon then we can set a date which will be very soon. Daz and I are willing to accept email submissions as and when people want to send them. I think taking the card around to let us say Essex would be nice for people who want to sign it. The scrapbook can be sent sooner. I agree I want to card to get to him ASAP - but wouldn't it be nicer if it had the most messages in it as possible? Obviously the scrapbook we can get sorted as soon as we receive the submissions. By the sounds of things Jim is going to be in hospital a while (:() so the card getting to him a bit later with more personal touches would be nicer IMO.
 
The general consensus seems that we ought to get this out ASAP in this case we shall see what we can do. Daz is sorting out the card - and a scrapbook is easily done. So get sending people so we can add to it!
 
What we'll probably do is get the main card done ASAP - get as many people to sign it as possible. Then I'll take a card to the Essex meet that people can sign there too.

The scrapbook will be collated as soon as we have all the submissions. Either way he's going to get bombarded by cards and well wishers - it doesn't matter if they don't all come at once. :)
 
I like that idea of a recording - considering he won't be able to keep the scrapbook or mah00sive card there seems less of a point :( However I still think we should get a scrapbook/card/postcard thing going for him once he's out of the sealed unit. Does that sound like a good idea?
