Trek MTB Upgrade Help

Hiya,

I have a 2012ish Trek 6300D that unfortunately has laid up for a year or so due to moving. It now has a few issues that I need to address. I'm confident enough regarding changing parts, but know nothing about specs etc and whats compatible replacement wise.

The front caliper, an Avid Elixir 1, has a seized piston and I've been unable to fix it. I bought replacement seals but the pot is shagged too and frankly I was never too fussed about how they performed. I'm looking to replace this with a new equivalent spec option. Any suggestions? Things seem to have changed a lot from old Elixir 1/3/5 or Shimano Deore/XT options I used to be familiar with.

Likewise, I'm looking to change from the 3x10 set up on there currently and move to a 1x10 drivetrain. This is where I have no idea about replacements, so could really do with some guidance here.

Front Derailleur: Shimano Deore
Crank: Shimano M552, 42/32/24
Shifters: Shimano Deore M591, 10 speed
Cassette: Shimano HG62-10 11-36, 10 speed
Brakes: Avid Elixir 1 hydraulic disc brakes

As you've got a HG rear freehub, that opens you to a whole range of options for going to a 1x drivetrain. I would look at the Shimano M5100 groupset, as that gives you the option of either 11-51T or 11-42T on the rear, which can be paired with something like a 32T chainring up front.

The brakes are also excellent for the money, so you may as well go all-in with the 5100 setup. Some excellent deals available on a complete groupset, but you can also pick up individual components on the cheap as well.

Go 1x. Its a game changed on mountain bikes. I don't think I have seen anyone run anything else for years now. Bombproof, easy to maintain and works amazingly. I have 2x on my road bike so its not just that I don't have experience of front mechs and their benefits.

The above would be a great start. Deore hydraulic disc brakes are great as well.
