I was having a quick look at the buyers manual for my Highway 1 Strat and i noticed a section about changing the tremolo position so it lies flush with the body. I never use the tremolo arm and so i was wondering if theres any benefit in doing this? Would it make the tuning more stable etc, and if i did it would i have problems with the intonation or anything like that?

One benefit of laying it against the body is if you break a string; the rest of the strings will stay in tune then as the tremolo can't pivot further back as it's against the body, so the tension on the other strings will remain consistent.

Other than that though there aren't really any benefits.

If your guitar is set up for tremolo usage then there's a chance you'll have to readjust your intonation slightly if you change the trem angle.
