Tri 780ti SLI on fire

Hi,

Just got 3 x 780ti sli setup and im having a troubling problem where the top two cards are getting very hot (85oC+, even topping out at 99oC at times).

This is purely because they are crammed together with very little space for airflow to them.

Can anyone advise a solution (besides water) that will get my temps down as they are actually throttling at that temperature and my performance suffers badly.

I was thinking of getting an Antec spot fan and putting it at point blank range by the two top cards (third card temps are fine).

There is something very wrong there as I have run four Titans on air with no problems.

What case are you using

Does it have good air flow

Are you using a custom fan profile

Why are the cards not throttling @80c

What have you got cooling your CPU, is it interfering with the airflow around the GPUs

I was expecting a story where they actually caught fire :(

99c is really brutal, are you overclocking them highly/messing with voltage etc?

Does your case have any airflow?

tri 780ti's, I bet its getting a bit toasty in there.

Out of interest, what case do you have? If the side panel had a fan on it, that would help, at least its getting air between the cards.

When I do go SLI, i'll be very glad that my case has a 200mm fan blowing air directly at the cards.

It might be worthwhile trying with the sidepanel off and seeing how the temps are. It sounds like they're just getting no air at all. Even SLI reference coolers shouldn't break 85c.

actually the ti versions throttle at 83oC

im using a corsair 600t case so the airflow is good and I have had the side off and it still gets roasty.

They are at default voltages and clock speeds too.

The cards should throttle, there is no way they should reach 99c. Something is very wrong there... I have 3 in SLi and if you leave everything stock, including fan profile the cards will eventually throttle heavily after an hour+ of heavy gaming, but they will always hit the temperature target. What cards do you have? Have you tried the latest drivers?

We need to get clear about the definition of "throttle down". I see throttling down as result of overheating and the cards are literally clocking under their base clock speed ! - is that what is happening ?
OR is it that they don't GPU Boost that much/that high ! because to me that is not throttling ! its just not Boosting that high because of the temperature thresholds.

This is how I cool my 3x GTX 780's.
After adding a Scythe Kaze Ultra 3000 120x38mm high static pressure fan (this is important to get the air in between the graphics cards!) on the side panel, all my GTX 780 are running at their max boost clock 90% of the time.

think im going to try out an antec spot fan and put it at point blank range over the cards.

I am using the latest drivers

The cards will throttle the core clocks in order to meet the temperature target of 83c (stock). They will keep doing this till the target is maintained. For one card to be at 99c means there is some seirous airflow problems or one of the coolers has some shockingly bad contact.

After benching/overclocking stint, if I then leave mine stock in game in every regard - keeping the fans quiet, mine will throttle as low as 550Mhz each on the core ensuring they maintain the temperature target. This is easily fixed with a decent fan profile, but the point is there is no way it should be reacing 99c.

its deffo airflow issue, as they run fine as individual cards temp wise.

PhysX is the bottom card, the coolest one as it has no air blockage issues around the fan area

Any pictures of your setup? I have the Elysium which is pretty giant for airflow, with 200mm side intake. But I don't understand how it's reaching those temperatures with no adjustment to power limit or temperature limit.

Yup I understand that :) I'm just assuming that all his presets are on auto/default (fan rpm, temp target etc). But yes 99°c is way too much.
