Tri-Fire 5970+5870

Anyone had any luck with this, I picked up a 5970 and thought i would give this a try but I have had no luck whatsoever it picks up crossfire seems to use all cores although there is no actual difference in fps. Is it just that xfire is pants? or what.

Could it be that you are cpu limited?

Give us an idea of your full spec, game thats showing no increase etc.

Good point i have my i7 920 at default. What sort of speeds would i need to see a difference think my chip will do 4ghz at a push although not bothered with oc'ing for a while.

6gb OCZ 920 i7, crucial ssd, Gigabyte UD5, 850 watt Corsair, Dell U2711 monitor. Sapphire 5970 & a Powercolour 5870 OCS

Was just messing with it really so not to sure on the tweaking really or how to get the best out of it.

Depends on the game and res mate, for example, pretty much all source based games are heavily cpu bound (css, tf2, alien swarm, etc) In most of these titles I saw no real benefit moving from a 3870 to 3870cf then to 5850.

Other games will become cpu limited at lower resolutions, for example crysis will be limited by the cpu if using low amounts of vram.

On the other hand some titles are known to scale poorly with crossfire so there will be a few out there that really don't see the benifit.

If I were you I would do a few loops of 3d mark vantage with cat AI enabled and dissabled to see how you get on.

Using my i7 at stock Showed massive slow down in bench's with 2 5870's so with tri fire i would think it will be more. 4Ghz made it much better but i did try 3.6Ghz at that was fine as well TBH
