So, I have that itch again and I have a few questions y'all may be able to help with. I have a 2600k @4.6ghz and crossfire Gigabyte 7970 WF cards. I was thinking about going Haswell for a new build but my interest is piqued in a new motherboard (Gigabyte sniper x79?) and a 3rd Gigabyte 7970 of the same model. My PSU is not a problem but would I be OK sandwiching 3 of these cards together, as they dump air from the sides or should I get a ref model and if so what would be the best order to place the cards? Nothing is decide yet but I do quite fancy giving it a try. I would love to hear feedback on the best way to go. I know Haswell isnt much of a jump for gaming but I play Starcraft 2 and as Xfire dosnt do much good in that game for me a faster CPU would up the fps at 1440p.

Temps will be higher but the Asus RIVE/RIVF X79 has massive spacing and this helps tremendously with keeping the cards cooler. I feel the best way to go is water cooling but as you will be aware, this is expensive to start. I can't remember the post count you need for MM but you can pick up lots of bits cheap there to help and if I can build a water cooled system, anyone can. :)

Not the answer you was after but something to think about :)

Thanks mate. I have thought about it (on your previous advice I think) but as you said its a bit more expensive than I would like I think. I am slowly plugging away at that count though to access this mythical MM you all speak of! :)

I really do want a couple of 780s but it's just too much money.

No probs and the MM is a wondrous place full of sniny things.

As you have a couple of 7970's, I wouldn't switch over and I know StarCraft is an Nvidia title (or gets better frames on Nvidia), that wouldn't be reason enough to swap over (for me at least).

That upgrade itch we get does need scratching at times and no matter what we tell ourselves, it will not go away :(

Think I will go Haswell and hopefully the ASUS RIVE boards will be released with it as that is a mighty fine bit of kit going on there,if a touch on the "dont let the wife see the reciept" pricey side :D

Just remember you will be in a pickle if you want to use trifire on a 1440p going above 60-80 hz as you will need to use 2 crossfire bridges between card nr 1 and nr 2 leaving the third card useless.

DONT use WF 7970s in tri-fire. I just sold all 3 of mine - 2 WF and 1 normal because all in a line in any order the WF cards cant get rid of heat and throttle instantly. It's really dangerous using WF cards right next to each other.

Ah I see. I likes my Dell over the cheaper ones though as that warranty is spot on, plus I had a Hazro and a DGM fail on me. Both within 3 month of purchase.
