Trial software on something that says it's not??

This evening, I went around to a computer-illiterate friend to help set up her new computer and wireless network. Upon attempting to demonstrate how to use a flash stick, I opened up Word to try and create an example document to send to the stick.

However, when I opened Word, the usual registration stuff came up. I did all the usual stuff, and then typed in the key at the back of the CD case (Works 8.5). However, it then announced that it was trial software - and that I need to put in a key to upgrade it to a piece of actual software. Confused, I tried to put in the key again - but it wouldn't work (the key in question is entitled as being a trial key). I looked through the bundled stuff that came with the PC, but I couldn't find anything that looked like another key for Works (I can't guarantee that my friend fetched me everything in the bundle).

It's quite confusing, as this has never happened to me before. Being the friendly neighbourhood Spider-Man, I would like to sort it out for her. The computer is a FujitsuSiemens.

Word and Works are two different products.

You've a demo of WORD and full release of WORKS.

Us ehte Works word processor -- yeah I know, it's annoying :)
