Hello all.

My BT FTTP contact (150mbps plus a disc) is coming to an end and I have been looking to see which provider to go with.
I found Tribe Fibre being advertised as gamer friendly but after some digging I understand that Tribe was formerly Community Fibre who use CGNAT.
Is Tribe any good?
The use of this seems to have mixed experiences for people playing games which for me may become an issue. I play Minecraft with my son and I also play Fallout 76 on public and private worlds whilst the wife and my daughter tend to stream.
Tribe have quoted me the same speed as my current BT contract which is fine but Plusnet seems to be a better option if I go full mesh and store their hub two as a backup.
I will have a read of the current community fibre thread on OCUK to try see how others have got on.
Ps Mesh is required as I can't run ethernet and all the internal walls are brick.

From memory, you have the option of paying for a static IP which would mitigate most of your concerns, but it is an extra cost (perhaps this is part of the gaming tribe?). Plusnet are generally good, UK based CS/TS and other than the odd billing system issue, you should be fine, they are also part of the voluntary compensation scheme and they actually pay out.

  • BT (joined 1 April 2019)
  • EE (joined 4 May 2021)
  • Hyperoptic (joined 28 October 2019)
  • Plusnet (including John Lewis Broadband) (joined 4 May 2022)
  • Sky (including NOW Broadband) (joined 1 April 2019)
  • TalkTalk (joined 1 April 2019)
  • Utility Warehouse (joined 17 February 2020)
  • Virgin Media (joined 1 April 2019)
  • Vodafone (joined 3 November 2021)
  • Zen Internet (joined 1 April 2019)

Tribe/Community Fiber aren’t, and as someone who had free service for over a year following a fault, that’s worth considering along with the CF thread’s experiences.

The flip side of that is PN are just reselling OR products, Community Finer/Tribe offer a symmetrical product and have a competitive price, they can also choose if/when to start offering faster speeds as it suits them.

Thank you, your information has certainly taught me something new. I had no knowledge of the compensation scheme.

Hi folks, just here to confirm that Tribe Fibre has no relationship with Community Fibre, none of the people that founded or manage Tribe Fibre have ever been involved with Community Fibre. Also, Tribe Fibre do not use CGNAT and we do offer a free statis IP address. If you have any further questions on Tribe Fibre I am very happy to answer them.

Full disclosure, I am one of the Co-Founders of Tribe Fibre.

Cheers,

Jay
