The developers of Global Agenda have been taking a long look at player feedback over the past months, particularly that regarding Warzones in the game, and they've come to a decision. It's certainly not one that players were expecting, though.

Hi-Rez Studios CEO Erez Goren announced today that the company is the "proud new owner of the Tribes franchise." The company now has two teams in the studio, one devoted to Tribes Universe, which is expected to enter alpha testing at the beginning of 2011.

While some of the community worries that this news means the end of Global Agenda, Erez is clear that Hi-Rez will continue to develop and support GA. You can read all the details on the Global Agenda forums.

If they're pitching at the hardcore, all they have to do is fresh up tribes/2. In truth it's the only way to bring back the series from the death after vengance

Hard to see the original concepts appealing to the audience of today though, tribes like it or love it, it's hardwork... there's very little easy/instant gratification.

Personaly i think it's great, they bring back the original/s im in.... Tribes 2 for me from a teamwork, being involved, with all the stuff you can place and do, still has no equal nearly 10 years on.

Ohmygodohmygodohmygod :D

Just keep the physics and the weapons and the skiing and the vehicle handling exactly the same. And the weapons and armour types. And the levels too please :p

Always loved Tribes. Tribes2 was a classic and the newer one ain't bad. can't beat skiin around brappin fools with a spinfuser. it takes mad skillz.

can't wait.

woohoo this is gona rock, hopfully it's going to bring a whole new fanbase to the series. I was always dissapointed when the old ones started dwindling on servers/players and wanted to scream at everyone LOOK AT THIS GREAT GAME, PLAY IT!

(Hope they fix bunnying with the flag though, that irritated me to no end)

- Three Tribes (factions)
- Full clan (agency) support
- First person view (third person for some vehicles)
- Full vehicle support (ground and air)
- Full persistent world with territory control (no instances)
- PvP focused
- Huge outdoor maps (about 10x the area of sonoran desert)
- Large scale fights (100 players)
- Jetpacks, skiing, lots of weapons, etc

Alpha testing will begin at the start of the year (about 3 months from now) and Global Agenda players with level 50 characters will have priority in entering Alpha and Beta testing

Fond memories of the original Tribes, awesome stuff considering it was basically a free accompaniment to a different game :p

Probably still the online game I've played the most, was pretty good at it at one point too :)

so basically Planetside Mk II .... not what tribes players want at all. ..

I was the same, heard Hi-Rez got the Tribes licence, starting wishing for a Tribes 2 with Base+ Classic etc brought up to date with a newer engine, then the mention of MMO stylings. Looking at Global Agenda, they already use a lot of team based fps with jetpacks etc so I guess they may just extend on GA and add the tribes universe history to it.

Will keep my eyes on it, see where it heads.

As long as the whole mmo progression thing doesn't affect your ability to fight. If they can do a kind of Eve / Planetside thing, where the older players are good are more things at once, I don't really mind. As long as you can pick up a gun and kill someone regardless of their rank, I'm SO there :)
