As title really, is there anyway to put a DVD container file around a .AVI file, without actually converting the XVID/DIVX video to DVD format?

Thanks.

Why would you be doing this?

Short answer is no, as DVD format is MPEG2, which XVID/DIVX will never be. But depending on exactly what you are trying to achieve, there may be something that you can do...

To cut a long story short, i need WMP to play an AVI as if it was a DVD, so I thought that maybe you could just put it in a DVD container, but if not, then don't worry.

Its so I can use Vistas Media Center dvd library for my divx/xvid/x264 films

If you just want to play Xvid/Divx in Vista Media Centre, have you tried installing FFDShow?
See here: http://www.ehomeupgrade.com/2007/02/07/ffdshow-media-control-plug-in-for-windows-vista-mce-released/
and http://sourceforge.net/projects/ffdshow

If you want them to display in DVD Library, though, that won't help, and I'm not sure there is a way. Have you tried the My Movies plugin to manage your DVDs / videos instead? http://www.mymovies.dk/

Thanks for your reply mate. I can play them fine through VMC, I just wanted to try and hack them into the DVD Library so I could get the coverart and info without the need for a plugin. (Yes I am aware of the mymovies and various other plugins available)

Thanks again.
