Had my Viewsonic VX922 for a couple weeks now, and it's just great for gaming and watching the odd divx, tv program despite being a tn panel. And I have got use to the small size now, after coming from a Dell 2405FPW. Still, was playing around with the idea of adding another one of these and today got the opportunity to borrow a friends VX922 to test dual head out.

First installed Ultramon and setup everything the way I like. It’s nice being able to watch tv on one screen with Media Center and browse on the other, but I guess it’s more of a convenience as I have a hdtv for all my dvd, divx, and tv purposes. So not worth spending the money for a 2nd screen just for this. I then looked at browsing, and it is definitely nice being being able to move windows around on different screens, although I am not a developer or graphic artist, so again I don't know how much value I would get out of using 2 screens as I probably would not be tracking 2 windows at the same time. I also found it irritating the way some windows would open up on the 2nd screen instead of the first. And after about an hour of looking left and right I got what is called tennis neck syndrome! Last up was gaming. Couldn't find any game in my collection that spans 2 screens, thereby making the 2nd screen useless. Was hoping for some support in Oblivion like inventory management.

So I guess dual head is pointless for me. I probably should have gone for a bigger screen that can handle gaming...like the Nec 20WGX2, but then again a higher res screen means another video upgrade eventually. At least I didn't make the mistake of buying a 2nd LCD and finding out it wasn't for me.

Its not for everyone, but if you're doing a proper degree or working the right kind of job then its a godsend...running a spreadsheet or CAD or photoshop etc on one screen, and Word on the other.

I'm so used to having dual monitors that it just feels wrong to only have one.

It started when I grabbed a spare 2005 at work and used that along side my existing 2005. At home now I've got dual 2405's. It rocks

Ditto.

At college I often try use hotkeys to switch between apps, then I'm like "Doh! It's only 1 screen"

For multi-tasking it's the best thing since the internet!

I have dual CRT monitors and they take up most of my desk space. Im sure I will change to LCD when I get some extra money. But I agree it feels a bit odd when you only have one monitor to use.

I felt the opposite...maybe I didn't give it long enough. I suppose if I was doing development, cad or graphics design it would be a different story, but for gaming and browsing I think it might be a waste splahing out on another screen.

Probably. Esprecially since you usually use tabs in your browser. For working though dual monitors is most excellent. .

I love dual screen, I feel very limited with just 1 screen. I could live with a widescreen monitor as I usually adjust a window to be 4:3 with smaller apps on the side, but Dual monitor does increase productivity. Not to mention you can watch movie on 1 and work on the other at the same time.

It is all down to personal preference, but like I said, it just feels wrong now if I work on a single screen.

Although I don't do any graphics or CAD and only minimal coding, I still find having dual screens a big help. I have a couple of firefox windows on the left screen then Winamp, Trillian and Open Office Writer on the right hand screen.

The hardest thing is when I work from home I only have a 12" TFT on this laptop and it is such a stark contrast to the dual 24" screens I use on my own PC.

Im in the dual screen camp, and I find it hard to get used to using a single screen here at work. At home I use 1x2405 and 1xXerox192i. At one point I did have 2 Xeroxs as well as the 2405 and I found myself very quickly becomming used to it, shame one was the faulty one that was being returned.
