Hi guys,

Am currently running an i7 920 D0 at 4.1ghz with a 6970 and 6950 in xfire, and have just bought another 6970 to run in trifire (can't ever have too many gfx cards!) on a OCZ ZX Series 1000W '80 Plus Gold' - guessing this will be more than enough juice for the job?

Hoping the cards scale well as obviously 3x6970's would be the best solution but 2-off and a 6950 should be fine?

Any advice on certain setup tweaks for trifire appreciated as I have never tried a 3x setup!

Many thanks!

Matt.

PSU will be fine. :)

I can't comment on Tri-fire as I haven't used it, though I would have thought the set-up would be the same as with two cards except for an extra bridge.

I'm a massive iD fan and when Doom3 came out and system killed (tm) most PCs I want to be in a position to run Rage flat out! I know one card probably could do it but....meh :D

Birthday present to myself ;)

Just hope that 2x6970s and a 6950 work ok together, just wondering if I should have the two 6970s in the first two slots and the 6950 in the last slot, although they will all knock down to PCIe 8x.

I think you would want one 6970 in the primary slot. What motherboard do you have?

I hope you have had / will have a great Birthday. Looking at that graphics set-up, you won't have to worry about Rage (at all!) or I doubt even Doom 4 maxed out, when it finally arrives. :)

Gigabyte EX58-UD5 iirc, might be a UD7 who knows :D It's next to me and I really can't pull myself up to look :D

Thanks very much for the birthday wishes! It's on Wednesday and I think I've bought enough stuff in the past fortnight to write off any presents! :)

Have a trifire using HD 5970 and HD 5870 with 1000 watt, the only concern you will have is temps, i had to push a case rubber foot between cards to open up the gap from about 3 mm to 10mm slanting the cards in opposite directions as much as possible and fitting a fan directly above. This brought the temps down by 10 degee full load.

Slightly off topic but I have heard that the best possible combo of cards to stop micro stutter is 3x high end AMD Cards, so cool choice! Think it was a toms hardware review that specifically tested for this.

I think I'll be ok with the temps as the case has great airflow (Raven 2) with the cards vertical not horizontal like in most cases. Should be quite interesting!
