Trip computer keeps resetting

I drive a '99 Focus Zetec which has developed a mind of its own when it comes to the trip computer. It keeps resetting to 0.00 despite me not having been anywhere near the button.

It's happened maybe 15/20 times in the last few months, and on one occasion this week, twice in 3 miles.

It seems to be totally at random, the highest it's gone before resetting is about 80miles. I've played with the button to see if it's stuck and it seems the same as it always was, so I'm baffled.

Is this a common Ford problem? Will it be easy enough to sort out or this gonna cost me?

Does it reset when you start the car or just when you are driving along?

When I'm driving, I'll look down at some point and it'll either have just changed, or it'll be a couple of miles in, having previously been many more.

Maybe a faulty reset switch that closes when you bounce about? Just throwing that idea out there, no idea of the mechanicals of it. Hopefullly its something silly like that. I remember mine did that once, no idea why and it never happened again during its time with me, also did the odd turn on the radio by itself a few times, especially after a wash
