Currently I have a dual boot setup with XP and Vista 32bit but I was wondering if it is possible to install Vista 64bit on yet another separate drive and have a triple boot setup.

Would this work or will I get a problem booting XP or Vista 32 bit?

If you install vista on a separate drive then you can just choose to boot from that drive or the drive storing your 32-bit operating systems.

If you start the install from within Vista 32 bit, you will get 3 boot options after the first reboot. Used this method to get a tripple boot of XP32/Vista64/WS2008-x64

Its easy, install the new operating system on the partition you wan than use a program called EasyBCD.

This is a boot utility that lets you create a very basic but effective menu at the start up of your pc.

Open the program and highlight the drives and op system u want to include in boot and then you can also have a default boot after a set time period it defaults to the op system of your choice and loads.

Have fun I did this last month....

I have 4 setuyp on a test PC... 2 HDs, each with 2 partitions each

Both HDs are 80GB and they are partitioned as 30GB + the rest.

Done them in this order ... :-

HD0 - Part 0 = XP 32
HD1 - Part 0 = XP 64
HD0 - Part 1 = Vista 32
HD1 - Part 1 = Vista 64

When it boots up, I get a combi-menu

I first get a Vista Menu asking me if I want Vista 32, Vista 64 or Older Windows, and if I select the older version of Windows, I then get the option of XP in 32 or 64 Bit flavours.

Might be a bit silly, but it works great.

Wow, I din't know more than a dual boot setup could be created. I just came in here to ask this very question! Thanks guys.

Why not stick a couple of flavours of linux on there too FatRakoon?

:D

FatRakoon, i don't understand why you need all those at all...?

Im not using that PC for any actual work...

I am running a head to head, comparing all 4 of the major versions of Windows to see in reality which one is better than which for what app.

I am running :-

XP Home Edition ( SP3 )
XP64 ( SP2 )
Vista Premium 32
Vista Ultimate 64

I could in theory also opt for Windows 2000, but I feel that there is not as many people who are still on that these days ( Although in truth I think its often better than XP ) and also Server 2003 too have some great benefits, however this too does not cater for the masses.

4 is more than enough.

What I did anyway, was install all the 4 O/Ses, installed drivers etc all in the same order on each, updated them all in *** same way, installed programs etc in the same order and everythign I did in the same order on each version as the next, in the hope that this will be as honest and as fair as I could possibly do it.

I then run a whole load of benchmarks, trials and tests and you name it, that I could see whether it was better to opt for 32 or 64 Bit and whether Vista or XP would be better for me.

In every single test I ran, I found that XP64 was the fastest O/S to use... It came very close in many things and to be fair Vista64 was right up XP64's bum in some tests, but basic old XP 32 Bit came pretty much last in everything.

My results therefore showed me that in this order, they are the fastest

XP64
Vista 64
Vista 32
XP 32

Kind of showing me that for the last 3 years, me using XP64 has been the best choice I made, and that Vista will only slow my gaming down now.

Of course, what my plans will be, is simply to gather the results from those tests ( I did start to upload them to my site but I got no feedback from others so I gave up - Im still doing the tests though on and off ) and I am going to follow the exact same procedures and do the very same hting on a completely different PC to the test one ( Abit AB9 + E2180 + 2GB + 7900GT ) and I will go with probably the AM2 Phenom cos I fancy some tests anyway.

So, thats why I did it... Its a spare PC and I just fancied titting about really and it just got out of hand.

Oh, if anyone fancyies another silly one I did a couple of years back, is when I was trying out UnReal Tournament under Windows and Linux...

I run it under Windows, I also run it under linux with it being properly installed with the Linux script etc, and I then also run it under Wine...

It ran better under Linux than under windows!!!!

Yes it is possible, with any amount of OS-es, just install the oldest first.
I atm have 2x xp and 2x vista in my boot menu.

Just install the xp's first so you have an xp boot menu, then the 2 vista's.
