I currently have a set of 3x2GB OCZ reapers 1800MHz of which one stick has failed. To return these I have to return the full set, so rather than have no usable pc for however long these take to ship to the netherlands, I was instead planning on buying 1 stick of 2GB memory of a similar speed (the remaining reapers are currently running at 1600MHz).

According to the motherboard manual, I can run triple channel with 4 sticks due to some flex tech from intel, but my other questions are:

1) am I likely to run into any issues running a matched set of 3 along with a single from another make?
2) are there likely to be any overclocking issues running with mixed ram types?

thanks for any advice.

well from the overclocking point of view you will obviously be limited by your weakest link. So you if you get 1 new stick but that won't clock as high as your old ones then obviously that would limit you but other than that I don't think it should.

You aren't going to see much performance increase.

1. All sticks will run at the same frequency as the lowest one.
2. Latency's of each module may be different.
3. Voltages may be different for different modules, meaning overclocking may become unstable rather quickly.
