with the preorder of the i7 now in when can we see the triple channel memory kits up for preorder mainly the corsair for me thanks.

Yeah, cellshock have 3x and 6x 1GB. But who really needs 3x and 6x 2GB?

Better question, who would want to go down to 3GB of ram with an i7 system when the sort of i7 buyers will be running 4GB systems now..

3 x 2GB sticks should be the norm, then it should be cheap to add in 3 x 1GB sticks to bump it upto 9 if you really need it, or 12GB if you fancy the full blown 6 x 2GB.

HI there

Those who want best overclocks as the 1GB modules seem to overclock a lot better than the 2GB modules on GDDR3.

However we shall be doing some 3x2GB Corsair kits soon but they will be 1333MHz kits and possibly 1600MHz, if you want faster its 1GB modules for now hence why 3GB Kits might be most popular to begin with for those who crave benchmark and sheer FPS performance. :)

Gibbo, what memory at what speed, timings and volts were you running in that i7 system you posted the benchmarks up for a little while back? Have you had the problem with this 1.5V memory limit?

Hi there

I was using the Cellshock 3GB Kit and was running the memory past 2000MHz with 2.06v in it, everything was fine. :)

anyone who uses lots of software that actually uses RAM, 4GB just isnt allways enough, and just because you can't think of a reason for it, doesn't mean they dont exist :P

You say 1333MHz like it's such a bad thing, but it's not a bad compromise on performance vs price, which will soften the cost of buying an X58 mobo to go with it!

With the memory controller on board the CPU now and (apparently) more memory bandwidth than you can shake a stick at, how much does system performance change with different memory speeds, e.g. 1333 vs 1600 vs higher?

Well even with modern games 3GB is pushing it on a vista system without paging. I certainly wont be dropping below my current 4GB.

When playing warhammer online I saw the games memory usage at 2GB now add vista onto that and there will not be any change from 3GB of ram and this is before you add your useual background apps. This is a game thats been out a month, 12 months down the line who knows what. Wait we do, games will need more ram to get the best performance out of them.

I have not tested this game yet. Did you mean the game itself is utilizing 2GB? Just curious, what utility did you use to monitor this? I am getting good use so far from Process Explorer.

CTRL + SHIFT + ESC when some other app hung and i needed to kill it and i noticed war was using just under 2000MB of ram. It was a long session though!

Im not arguing that you NEED 6GB of ram, just that 3GB is not enough without being a bottleneck on a high end system.
