¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Whose bright idea was this? I don't see the point myself, ok we've had dual channel for ages now (even my socket A rig had it), but why on earth did they just not go straight onto quad channel instead of triple channel?

It is always another thing they can release in a years time. Another motherboard swap!

And then oddly the CPU socket changes! :P

Its the same old story tbh, you could argue that why didn't they just go for octochannel lol.

Maybe we can be thankful, at least you can buy 3 sticks of ram and not 4

I know but thing in the computing world normally double (or go by the power of 2)...

2,4,8,16,32,64, etc.

Going from dual to quad channel seems like the best option to me...

two reasons. firstly, they cant utilise quad channel and the cost would be prohibitally expensive. secondly, although tripple channel really isnt needed either, they really needed something to push and make the platform attractive...hello tripple channnel  lol

Ahh, I see... I guess it might help sell more RAM also, as 3 sticks are needed instead if 2.

Another thing is, if they used quad channel then motherboards would have to have either 4 or 8 RAM slots.
4 slots isn't really that much for a high end motherboard, and with 8 slots the cost might be too high and/or too little space.
6 RAM slots is a nice balance, what most X58 mobo's have.
