Triple-layer 45GB HD-DVD

I don't think the triple layer spec was finalisd before stuff went into production, it may or may not.

It could be if the marketing dudes ever fell out of love with multi-disk boxed sets, especially with regards to seasons of TV shows like Lost or 24.

True, although it would probably still be cheaper to use a couple of normal HD-DVD's instead of one triple layer.

For example Family Guy Series 4 (or was it 3) could easily fit on 2 DVD's yet they put it on 3 anyway.

Someone also pointed out in a reply to me in another thread that pschology also has a part to play - if the consumer sees a huge box of 9 dvd's lets say they think they are getting more value for money than offering the same content on one hd-dvd

Personally I think the opposite , I would pay a little extra to have everything on one disc in a slim case than one hefty box - which usually break the spine as soon as you have opened it fully - its also more convenient having one disc in the player rather than continually changing discs

But I can see their point also

Triple layered spec was shown off by Toshiba way back in May....

The HD-DVD [players have been out a fair while, I don't think they finalised the triple layer spec in time - no doubt they can make future players play them but if current ones don't there would be many unhappy punters.

Surely it would only need a firmware update, given the 360s online capabilities I wouldn't see why not.

I would rather have a smaller, smoother more reliable medium however. Just seems too much for a tiny CD.

Exactly my view also - with 200GB variety in final phase of development by TDK i believe

Not for films or games though, will be pc only if and when they finally emerge.

No, I am fairly sure the 360's HD-DVD could not play triple layer disks. It is not part of the existing standard, and no current HD-DVD players could play them.

It is also highly unlikely to be just a firmware thing, since it would require changes to the laser and the focusing system.
