Hi
I am looking to build a pc in the next couple of months, whilst I am not bothered about the latest stuff I would like to future proof it a bit, is it worth getting triple band DDR

I there much between dual and triple each in terms of performance (speed for speed)?

Thanks for any advice
Ian

All AMD and Intel Sandybridge are dual channel.

Intel Socket 1366 is triple channel.

It depends which platform you're going for.

Sandybridge is the best at the moment if you're starting from scratch.

PS

And welcome to the OcUK Forum.

As long as the better half does not see the prices I am looking at an I5 2500k at the moment..

Cheers

Can I just jump in here and ask a question?

My machine has an OCUK clocked bundle using an i3 with 4GB of Corsair XMS3.

Am I right in saying that the i3 is dual channel so if I want to have more RAM my option would be the 8GB option as mentioned above by Surveyor?

Yes the i3 is dual channel.

You can add another 2 x 2GB if your motherboard has 4 RAM slots but the overclock may be affected if you fill all 4 RAM slots.

Or you could get 2 x 4GB and sell what you have now.

I remember looking into benchmarks for tri-channal RAM and they was not impressive. This might not be the case with everything but when it comes to last-gen processors and tri-channal or current gen and duel, better to go for current. If you want something MORE than duel channel, I THINK the new x79 MAY support tri or quad. Would seem odd for them to take a step back unless they felt it was not worth it at all....

Glad you asked that Edd, as a newbe I would have got 4gb first and more later, but now I will just get the 8gb whilst it is on offer, thanks again Surveyor :)
