Hey,

This Christmas I received a £100 gift voucher for Jessops from my parents which I intend to to use to invest in a new tripod as the current one I have (my dads) is old and not very tall.

Sadly I know very little about tripods and could use some advice! I shoot using a Canon 500D and currently have the stock lens and a 70 - 300.

Any advice would be most helpful, thanks :D

if you can put a bit towards it you can get a manfrotto 055xprob legs with a 804rc2 head or same head with 190xprob legs but they are smaller and lighter

i got the 055xprob legs for xmas and i have just got the 804rc2 the other day for it and they are a perfect match

As above. My recommendation would always be either the 055XPro or the 190XPro. The 055 goes much taller and is a bit sturdier but is a lot bigger and heavier when carrying. The 190 is significantly smaller and lighter,

I have the 055 bit wish a lot that I had got the 190 for the portability. If you use it out of a car or in the garden then the 055 may be the better bet. Also have the 804RC2 and the 484RC2 ball head. Both are very good at their respective jobs and can take a 300 f/4 prime with ease so plenty for what you need.
