There's a few decent deals on the rainforest atm: 055XPROB with 804RC2 £163

I'd shop around as I only payed around £140 for my 190XPROB with RC2 ball head, your links seem a touch on the expensive side.

I need to read slower, I read it as how "did" you, heh.

I got on with the 190 fine I just needed something beefier as I'll be loading it up with an astrotrac soon enough and that with a small auto tracking scope soon adds up.

The 190 was definitely more portable then my current 055 and I was more then happy with the quality of it.

I have the 190XPROB Tripod and the 496RC2 Ball Head. I got the tripod in the black friday deals so the combined price was £129.

Must admit I haven't used them an awful lot yet but so far so good - the tripod seems very stable and the ball head is very easy to use.

No i meant how do get on with the tripod :)

How tall are you and what do you intend to put on the top?

I have both a 055 Pro and a 190CX (carbon version). I bought the 055Pro first because I thought bigger was better. Its tall enough but it a also long folded up and bulky making it a pain to use outside the house/ a specific shoot near a vehicle or your transport. I ended up buying the 190CX as my travel tripod, which I now use much more than the 055. I take it on holiday and when I go hiking. On the other hand it does have it's negatives, it's fairly short, especially with the centre column down (which is why I asked about height). The 055 also has a higher weight limit, although I have no problems with the 190 and a D7000 and 120-300 f/2.8 on top (although I think the carbon version has a slightly higher weight recommendation).

Both are great tripods though, just choose the beat one for your useage and height.

I've got a different version of the ball head.
Initially thought it was great but increasingly thinking of getting a three way head instead.
In certain circumstances it is more difficult to adjust and i have also found minor adjustments are often quite difficult as the socket seems to 'stick'.
