My old unbranded tripod is on it's way out. I know nothing about them

I've got a gorrilapod which is great for portability but has it's obvious limitations.

Could you recommend a good, lightweight tripod mainly for landscape photography where I'm likely to be carrying it attached to my bag? Possibly something that won't break the bank?

If you've got over £100 then a manfrotto will do the job, however, i'm perfectly happy with my Hama traveller compact pro, which is only £35 from WEX, head is interchangeable too.

I went through this for a travel Pod. Ended up with a Manfrotto 190CX3 (not the pro - can't remove centre column). Lightweight (carbon) but easily strong and stable enough to hold a 120-300 f/2.8 (3kg) with TC's so fine for landscape photography (which I use it for).

If that is breaking the bank then the regular 190XPro is probably your best bet. Tall enough to use but light enough to travel with. Don't get suckered in to getting something too big and heavy as you'll leave it at home a lot more than you want to. I have a 055Pro as well and rarely use that out the house now as it's just too big and heavy for landscape work unless you're driving to the location and not walking far (ie you aren't taking it on a walk).

My 190CXPRO3 (with a 496RC2 head) has just spent a week walking in the Dolomites with me. Spot on for the job IMHO.
