Im after a tripod for my Nikon CP 7900, the tripod needs to be fairly light so i dont mind taking it all the time, and needs to be nice and compact also so i can stick it in a bag on my back or something...

But i know i'm asking a lot, but i would like to be able to use it in the future with something like a canon 350d

I have been looking at the Velbon ULTRA-MAXi-F

Which folds down to 36CM in length and has its own carry bag. But does anyone own one and use t with an SLR?

Or has any better recommendations at all?

Lastly i dont really want to be paying over £70 if possible

I've got the Manfrotto 725B it's quite small (50cm compacted) and quite light (1.4kg) and is about £80. Would recomend it. Only down side is that it not as stable as Manfrotto more professional modesl but they weight and cost almost double the 725b.

You aren't going to find something that's really suitable for both your compact and an SLR.
My recommendation is to get a cheap <£20 tripod from you-know-where. I got the Hama Star61 (or something) very light, pretty versatile, comes with a bag to sling on your shoulder - perfect for the Cpix 7900.

Then get a proper tripod when you upgrade to an SLR - get the best one you can afford. A decent tripod, as long as you look after it, will last you forever.

This is what I did.

I've just recently got the Slik PRO 613 CF legs and a Manfrotto 484RC2 ball head, so far it's served me well and will easilly hold my 350D+battery grip+70-200 steady with no problem.

The head and legs combo weighs near as dammit 1Kg, it's perfect if you just want a nice light tripod to bung on your bag if you go for a wander.

Cost me about £170 in all....bargain :)

edit: oops just saw your max budget, that'll learn me to skim read :D

Think it will be a case of a cheapish one for now, and then get a better one as and when needed for an SLR. Thanks for your help, greatly appreciated! ;)
