After some advice on tripods, mine needs replacing and I don't know what to get

It needs to hold me 7D with a Tamron 17-50 attached or a 70-200 F4

I started looking at Manfrotto, the 190 specifically then came across Red Snapper

Are Red Snapper tripods any good? I've seen a lot of praise for them but then a lot of people also seem to say they fall apart quite easily

I also like the idea of the centre column folding flat on the Manfrotto though not sure if I'd ever make use of it but it is might be nice to have

I own the manfrotto 190 pro with the pull out centre column that folds horizontal . Its a solid tripod , doesn't flex in any way. (expected right?). The adjustable centre column is fairly sturdy even when in horizontal position.

It does really depend on the types of shots your after. Low down perspective is helped by the centre column. A few overhanging cliff shots have been helped. (although I use my camera with a camranger as I'm blind as a bat) .

Not had much experience with Redsnapper, MRK uses them thought and I'm sure there's some archived threads about it. I now have a Carbon Redged tripod after seeing Raymonds and so far it's been fantastic, I've used Manfrottos for years without issue, just stick to the Pro models 190/055 and you really can't go far wrong.

Sounds like you might be happy with the 190 Pro, there's a new one out which looks fantastic, although Ive not had a chance to play with one yet.

I bought a 055XPROB and 488RC2 head 5 or so years ago. Never felt the need to change it. Did find it heavy at first, but I went to the gym. ;)

I have a Redsnapper RST-283 and have no complaints. I bought a bigger cheapish head off eBay as the little one it comes with was up to a gripped 50D + 70-200 2.8.
