Tripple/quad display setup

I currently have a dual display setup using an 8800 GTX. I've recently bought a projector and would also like a 3rd monitor. What I would like is for the three monitors to be independent but with the 3rd monitor also being cloned to the projector (connected via DVI->HDMI).

I'm not sure I can just add a second card as the other PCI-E 16x slot is right next to the current cards heatsink, and that thing gets pretty hot. The x2 ATI/AMD cards seem to have 4 outputs, would I be better off switching to one of those and selling the GTX? Would an x2 card still run in crossfire with all 4 outputs in use?

Do the drivers (AMDs or nVidias) support such a configuration, or will I need to set it up as 3 independent displays and clone the signal using an external box? (this is getting more expensive as the post goes on! :()

Not really as all the connected displays would need to be the same resolution. I'll have 1280x1024, 1920x1200 and a pair (cloned) of 1920x1080 screens. Thanks for the suggestion though :)

U could get a much cheaper Matrox dual output splitter PCI card (need to check this can do HD res tho). TH2G is only necessary for gaming IMO. I tried this in gaming mode but at desktop it saw all 3 monitors as one screen (did not see an option that allowed them to be separated).

Wait for response re 4870X2.

Get a low profile gfx

they wont block the HS of the main card. im using a gtx260 and a small 9400gt and they are not comparable for size lets just say!
