I recently download a hack / trainer for a game and it's in exe form, it intagrates it's self into the game ( more of a hack than a trainer... ).

Norton didn't pick anything up, but my AV on my laptop picked up a trojan horse in the exe. Is it possible it only picked it up as a trojan because it modifies the code of another program / game. Or could there actually be something bad in it?

I've searched the trojan code on google, but nothing came up. Also clicked on the link the AV gave me for the trojan and it also didn't come up with anything at all.

Any help / info would be awesome :)

Thanks

i would suggest playing the game without hacking it.

Norton is useless so im not surprised it didnt pick anything up, whilst AVG generally flags up problems that isnt there.

it is entirely possible that you running a unknown .EXE has infected your computer.

from wiki
A simple example of a Trojan horse would be a program named "waterfalls.scr" where its author claims it is a free waterfall screensaver. When run, it instead unloads hidden programs, commands, scripts, or any number of commands with or without the user's knowledge or consent. Malicious Trojan Horse programs are often used to circumvent protection systems in effect creating a vulnerable system to allow unauthorized access to the user's computer. Non-malicious Trojan Horse programs are used for managing systems, deploying software, surveillance, and forensics.

recommended Antivirus's are Nod32 and karpansky

Thanks for the speedy reply mate :)

I've already done the game normally, that's why I got the cheats.

The exe does do the following from the wiki quote - commands, scripts. It add's these into the game and gives you a console etc. So maybe the AV could be just picking that up?

network usage is normal and there's no new / odd services running. Uhm.. ^^

I'm not sure ^^ It just says the trojan is this one > TR/Agent.53256.A

That's all that shows up, it's in a dll file. I don't think it's harmful cpu usage and network transfer is fine atm, and there's nothing new in my running services.

the 53256.A bit will be just one of many variations of the same thing. the TR/Agent trojan

google for TR/Agent and you'll find plenty of info on what it does. Sounds like somebody has bundled it in with somebody elses genuine stuff to help with a game

look around and see if anywhere else has it for download.

yep as Mr LOL says, i copied that bit out as although whatever your EXE does "normally" there may be more scripts that you dont know are going into your computer :) try a few other AV's. maybe download a 30 day trail run it then uninstall. a free scan so to speak :)
