so my windows security picks up a trojan and gets rid of it every other day. i keep getting trojans though, not sure if they are the same name but i keep getting them.

any advice how to get rid of it and stop it coming back?

i have the default windows security and free malware bytes.

im on windows 10.

also i noticed not so long ago a Firefox logo appears on my taskbar at start up, i noticed that its trying to do an update. but nothing ever happens apart from it shows up on my task bar. i dont use or even install firefox. ive found the folder its in but its suggesting it isnt installed as nothing happens when i hit the executables, there are .dll's in there. if i delete the folder will that do it?

Should have some anti addware in whichever (non ff) browser you are using; although I believe edge, at least, does do some checking against a bad sites list

Firefox logo appears on my taskbar at start up,
check startup tasks ... is there something ff related

Turn off system restore and nuke all restore points, then turn system restore back on and create a new restore point (a large amount of malicious items do hide in system restore and restore themselves if removed).

If that doesn't work, then backup all critical files and drop a tactical formatting nuke on it from on high and start from scratch.

Create a bootable scanner from one of the big brands that scans the system offline (doesnt even boot windows). This will catch any nasties, however the description of the 'trojans' these days are exhaggerated to be fair and sometimes ends up being a BHO or a PUP.

i cant think of anything i use that could be Firefox or even Mozilla related. i use Chrome.

i followed some advice i searched up and it had me use Zemana anti malware (which found nothing) and then hitman pro (which found 8 or so trojans or bad things). removed everything and hopefully that is sorted. restarted pc and no firefox or trojan but they dont always appear every reboot. so ill keep my eye out for now.

a bootable scanner, now that sounds like and awesome but difficult option. i will look into that for next time.

i dont really store anything on my pc. my only problem formatting is the games i play have a huge download. took over a day to download Elder Scrolls online, wouldnt go over 2.6mbps for some reason.

Back in the days when I Might have gotten a virus or something like that that...and couldnt get rid of it ( it would just come back )...I would turn off system restore , then scan , reboot to find no more Virus/Trogan :)

Take a screen shot of what the message your getting and post it here.

Could be a PUP, which in windows speak is a legitimate program that an antivirus program considers to be a 'potentially unwanted program'.

Eset online scanner, select all deep scanning and unwanted programs etc.

Before doing that..

Disable system restore
Run CCleaner to clear up temp files

Do you know the folder path that the trojan keeps appearing in? It should appear in the scan history of Windows Defender.

ok i will take all of what has been said here into account for next time.

the problem has not appeared today after performing zemana and hitman pro. so im going to leave it at that for now. but it wouldnt happen every day maybe 2 or 3 times a week, pc is on every day.

the trojans where Fuerboos and Fuery. they are the ones i remember. it wasnt the same one everyday but them 2 names seemed to be familiar when they came up so i think it was them and maybe others showing up randomly.

i found the auto start thing and saw firefox update in there. disabled it. not seen it since. i also delete what i could from that folder but some of it was unremovable (i think because it was being used by chrome, not suspiciously as it had chrome files in it that didnt seem essential and chrome still works fine).

ive found in the past some really good AV and malware stuff but after a while it starts to come with bloatware ie. asks to install things like bing toolbar and stuff with sneaky ways of making you think you cant disable it. so stopped using them ones.
