Trojans and Yahoo mail

Ok, Kaspersky found 9 Trojans in Thunderbird "yahoo/Bulk mail" folder. Kaspersky cannot disinfect as the file is write only. All "Bulk" mail has already been deleted from both my pc and from the server and yet the Trojans remain. I have contacted my Broadband supplier (Sky), who say it is a Yahoo problem (as Yahoo supply the email system for Sky) and Yahoo say it's a Sky problem as they are the one who supplies me the Broadband. My problem is that I cannot gain access to the file for Kaspersky to disinfect and neither Yahoo or Sky is willing to give me advice on how to do it. Anybody know how to go about accessing the Bulk mail folder (I even tried deleting it and it comes up as an error and that it is a Yahoo system file and cannot be deleted ?? HELP

I do not understand - where do the Trojans remain if you have deleted the mail and thus the attachments in them that are the Trojans ?

I have old archived mail folders which have some trojans in the attachments and have never bothered to clean them up since I am not going to review them and click on the attachments (in the same manner that when I originally received them I never click inadvertently on attachments)

Yep, I don't understand either, the emails were never opened and yet even once the folders are empty it still comes up as being present. As I said above, I even went to the server and made sure they were deleted just in case, but apparently they are still there (according to Kaspersky). I'm hoping that somebody can at least explain how and why and even if i have to totally delete Thunderbird off my system and re-install from fresh, that it might solve the issue ..

to give you an idea of where they are located:
Appdata/roaming/Thunderbird/Profiles/whodflfq.default/imapMail/imap.mail.yahoo.com/Bulk Mail and also Bulk Mail.msf

yeah I think so, either way it cannot be accessed by Kaspersky. The folder extension is "FILE" and there doesn't appear to be anything that can open it. At the moment I'm just trying to delete the folder entirely from my system and see if another is created when I log back in to sky/yahoo email .. will post back if it works ..

It's not directly related but I once had an issue in Windows with files that absolutely would not delete no matter what I tried or what permissions I had.

So I booted up the system with a live GNU/Linux distro (I used Knoppix at the time but there are many other options these days), mounted the drive which was NTFS, and deleted the files that way.

I don't know if that might help?

1) Close Thunderbird
2) Login using the Yahoo mail web interface
3) Delete the problematic emails
4) Reopen Thunderbird

Ive come across this issue before i just deleted the account to remove the folders then just added the account to thunderbird again. A pain yes but done the job. The threats are not there though i suppose you could just ignore it.
