Trooli 2Gbps package - getting full speed down but only half up!

I wonder if anyone can give me some advice/help please.

Last week we upgraded to Trooli's 2Gbps service, previously we were on the 900Mbps package.

I am now getting around 1.9Gbps down but only 900-950Mbps up via various speedtest sites/servers while hardwired to the new Zyxel box.

Trooli are insisting I must have an issue my end and nothing is wrong their end.

I have tested with both my onboard motherboard 5Gbps port and a 2.5Gbps network adapter attached to a 10Gbps USB-C port and have tried two different CAT6 cables.

This PC is the only device I have capable of doing the full speed so can't test other devices which makes things harder.

Anyone else had similiar issues and were able to fix it?

We upgraded to 2Gbps mainly for the upload speed so right now getting pretty annoyed :(

@Liebyz have you tried testing without the router? If you connect your ethernet to the ONT directly in place of your router?
If Trooli run DHCP then you should just get a WAN IP assigned, if it's a PPPoE then you'll need to set one up in Windows connection manager. That will rule the router out.

Not got any QoS set anywhere in the router? Usually you have to set an upload amount for those to work well, may need updating if not?

I have similar running realtek nics the default windows drivers were too slow, the latest drivers from the realtek website fixed it but an additional side issue on my laptop seemed tied to power profile on the laptop which weirdly only effects upload speed, have you tried in max performance mode.

I am so confused...

I connected direct to the ONT, it was PPPoE so supplied credentials from the Zyxel box and got connected. Did a speedtest and lo and behold it was finally getting past the 1Gbit-ish upload speed barrier:

So that ruled out my 6 month old new computer causing issues! Knew it!

Then I connected everything back up as before through the Zyxel box and suddenly I'm getting full 2Gbit!

I really don't understand but half expecting it to go back to how it was very soon...

Any ideas what suddenly kicked it into gear?!

Just the act of unplugging your router and configuring PPPoE on your computer directly was likely enough for the previous login session to be cleared which can work magic for fixing things of this nature

Maybe the profile just hand full taken?

At least you got a fix

You have probably sorted it now but i had similar issues when i went from 1Gb service to their 2Gb connection.

From day one of upgrade it has been worse than the Gb connection and they do indeed deny anything wrong their end.

My issues were lowish ping times (8ms), but any web pages were clunky and any pictures would load a second or so later, TV streaming services taking longer to load, buffering. Tried the usual rebooting but that didnt help at all and speed tests were aall coming back maxed out.

Eventually spoke to someone who had a customer with similar issues in the past and he deleted the package from my account their end and reapplied it and it made a slight improvement in general performance but it was still quite clunky.

Fast forward to last week and i emailed them to give them 30 days notice of termination of service as we now have Openreach FTTP in the area.

However, they just cut my internet off the minute they saw my email, so i had to call them to ask them to connect me back up for my 30day notice period whilst i sorted another provider.

Once they did that, the service is now much better and what i was expecting right at the start so again (now 4ms ping), it seems removing the package from my account and reapplying it has improved the service.

Digging around a bit i came to the conclusion that they have or had potential routing issues and as long as it is working, they don't care.

Having said that, i noticed the day after they reconnected me, the router disconnected three or four times randomly.

Anyway, now looking to move away, because for an alt net, yes they are much cheaper but poor quality of service/connection suffers i think!
