On Monday, I took advantage of the good weather and took a trip up to an area of Scotland known as the Trossachs. Here are some images from my trip...

Loch Lubnaig

Loch Ard and Ben Lomond

As always comments and criticism welcome. :)

3 good compositions there but a few wee thoughts/suggestions...

It may just be the naff panel on this laptop but they all seem a touch over exposed and washed out, not a problem if shot in RAW but a bit tricky if the originals are JPGs. It might be interesting to try running them through a Velvia action in PS to bring the colours out a bit more.

The ice in #1 gives some interest to the foreground, a lower angle might have given an interesting composition but getting the DoF right could have been tricky.

They look ok on my screen (just got a loan of a mates Spyder 2, so hopefully screen has been calibrated properly ;) )

If anyone else thinks they look washed out then by all means let me know

All the images were shot in raw, I maybe should have tried a couple of shots a bit lower down, but the tripod was only about 3 feet up on the first one.

Thanks for the comments.

I would play with the levels a bit to bring them a touch more life
what camera are you using btw? not a fuji s5000?
just looks like they've been compressed a bit too much
the 2nd one I'm sure I've seen it done professionally with a perfect reflection
lovely landscape

I'll have a little play with them and see what happens.

All the images were shot with a D50 and the kit lens

Strax, do you cheat on reflections in photoshop or something? I was in Troassachs same day, didn't get anything like that

Absolutely not  Monday was very still all day, I did a tour of most of the lochs; I visited Ard, Arklet, Chon, Katrine, Lubnaig, Voil, Venachar, Doine and the Lake of Mentieth (quite a lot when you write it all down :p ) and most of these were calm to very calm all day

Loch Ard was shot about 10am, Lubnaig about 1pm and Loch Voil was 4.30pm iirc.

I have just been lucky and picked my days well.

Poo, I was loch voil at 1ish, wind must have dropped by then :(

Don't remember passing one of them unless you were at Rob Roys grave as I passed. I would have went onto the single track road around 2.30pm, I think.

After some good advice in this thread, I decided to have a further play with them in cs2. Heres loch voil with shadows/ highlights improved. A bit of a difference, still learning cs2 tbh :)

That's looking good now, the tweaks have picked out some nice colouring.

BTW ref my previous comment, it was just the laptop  exposure looks ok from here.

The whole trossachs area is superb for photo opportunities, so many good places to visit in a reasonably small area.

I couldn't agree more :D I worked up there for about a year and a half and I never once got bored of that scenery. It really is truly breath taking
