Upgrade as in, DDR 3 ;)

Went from 8Gb to 16Gb with this

Motherboard is

Took out old ram, put new ram in, but in the other Dimms furthest from CPU as there isn't enough clearance. Couldn't find anything to suggest this is a problem. More concerned with the dust that'd accumulated in them over the years.

Anyway, the issue is varying levels of instability, with the system rebooting itself. It's something to do with the overclock and memory speed.

With some experimenting, the PC flat out does not like memory speed anywhere above 1333Mhz. Even though the board supports 1866Mhz, it doesn't actually show it in BIOS. Max it goes is 1600Mhz. XMP went to 1700Mhz something, but that didn't work regardless.

Not sure if a BIOS update would help, but reading up on it, it was just USB3 support and the like, so have not done.

At the minute, a 4.4Ghz O/C with the memory at 1333Mhz is perfectly stable in desktop, but still the occasional crash in games. If I lose the overclock, down to the default 3,3Ghz, it's fine. But obviously that's not something anyone wants to do with an i5 2500K.

Voltages and memory timings are waaaay outside my wheelhouse, so I have no idea if it's down to that or something less technical. I do feel like the RAM is maybe too advanced for the mb, despite reading what I believed to be okay.

Thanks for any suggestions.
