Trouble connecting to orange livebox

Im setting up a wireless connection with the livebox for a friend, I've managed to get the laptop connected ok but im having trouble with the main computer connecting through a usb wireless dongle.
It says its connected but its acquiring network address, any help would be appreciated.

Are the laptop and the PC running the same OS?

I've heard that Vista gives livebox's hell.

livebox's are terrible things!!!

try completly terning off the security, and seeing if you can then conect to the box. then if this works turn security back on. I found this then worked, no idea why.

I did this with me girlfriends sisters laptop at her home, she couldn't get on her livebox, i spent hours playing with settings then just was checking to see if it was the security mucking things up. when we turned it back on again

it worked, again no idea why...

Laptop is on vista and connected once I put the wep key in, the main computer is on xp.
I'll try turning the security off crazyDAJT and see what happens, I've just left there house to test the dongle in my computer and it picks up someones network and connects no problem
