Trouble converting vidoes and publishing videos in windows movie maker

Im doing some work at the moment which requires the use of video converting software and windows movie maker, but when i try to convert or i try to publish a video the estimated time on movie maker just increases indefinately and never completes, and in the video conversion software it increases for a while and then shuts itself down

as far as i know this is DEP playing up on vista, but ive tried turning it off, and reinstalling the software and this hasnt solved the problem, i can maybe understand there being a conlfict with the conversion software and windows, but surely u'd think microsoft are smart enough to ensure movie maker - thier own version - doesnt have a conflict anyway, does anyone know of a solution to this problem?

its magic video converter, the latest version, i dont think its that which is the problem though

well i haven't heard of it. just checked out the website...looks pretty generic piece of software. i suggest trying another software. that way you will able to know if its a software problem with compatibility or an OS problem.
