Trouble deleting / hiding / unhiding files / folders

I'm hoping someone can help me as this is beginning to bug me now and Google isn't my friend.
If I try to delete a folder / file I have to do it twice sometimes three times before it works.
Same if I want to hide / unhide folders, I have to select the button in file explorer options and press apply, then do it again before it actually works.
I'm on Win 10 Pro 20H2 Build 19042.1052, fully updated, and a reinstall doesn't seem to help.
Hopefully the vast pool of knowledge here will.

Do it once then wait a few minutes. Check if it actually does end up getting deleted. Make sure you refresh the view with F5 if you have remained in the same window to ensure you get an updated view. (Sometimes windows can go funny and not auto refresh the explorer windows).

Do you use onedrive?

Are you an administrator on your machine and/or definitely have rights to the folders you are trying to remove?
 
Thanks for the suggestion, I will give it a try and report back.
I don't really use onedrive, the problems are all on local storage.
I definitely have the rights as it does work, but I have to repeat the process before it does.
